Yoga Foundations with Andy Gill

2.00 - 4.30pm

In this workshop Andy Gill, a yoga practitioner for over 25 years, will explore the basic movements and postures common to all yoga styles in a simple and accessible way.

All of us bring habitual movement patterns to yoga when we come to the mat, and transferring some of these to the practice of yoga can result in pain or injury if continued.  Understanding how to move in a healthy, safe and optimal way will enable you to realise the full benefit that the practice of yoga offers us all.

In this workshop Andy will explore the following:

  • The importance of breathing
  • Sun salutations and vinyasa style movements

  • Down dog and up dog

  • Safe approaches to forward bending and how to work with tight hamstrings

  • Developing shoulder mobility/flexibility as well as stability

  • Approaches to hip opening

  • Approaches for key yoga asanas such as Trikonasana (Triangle)

  • Flexibility vs stretching

This is an experiential workshop in which Andy will share information and demonstrate to give you the opportunity to practise and experience these approaches for yourself.

As a teacher and a practising life coach, Andy understands and respects the needs of the individual student, placing their needs at the heart of his teaching. He brings an informed and non-dogmatic approach to teaching Ashtanga yoga whilst remaining consistent and true to the traditional method.  The workshop is suitable for students new to yoga, but he will share information that will benefit students with more experience too.

Price: £25

If you wish to book for a friend, please contact us.   It is only possible to reserve one space under your own name - everybody needs an account and to sign our online waiver.

Jivamukti Fundamentals with Amy McDonald

Whether beginning yoga to gain fitness, strength and flexibility or to help calm a busy mind, these 2 workshops are a great place to start.

Amy McDonald will be breaking down the fundamentals of the Jivamukti Yoga practice including physical postures as well as some breathing and meditation techniques.

Both workshop days are open to all levels and suggested for those who have never practised yoga before, for those who are returning to yoga after having a break and experienced practitioners who want to refine their skills and revitalize their current practice. Also for those who would like to learn more about Jivamukti Yoga.

Founded by Sharon Gannon and David Life in New York in 1984, Jivamukti is a relatively new form of yoga. Classes use a strong, dynamic flowing movement with a unique focus woven into each session. Jivamukti is a multi-faceted practice that goes beyond asana (postures) with chanting, yogic philosophy and readings all set to uplifting music.

Workshop 1: Standing and forward bending asanas

Sunday 15th April, 2.00 - 4.30pm

Standing poses reflect back to us something about our willingness to connect to the earth, to all beings and to all things in nature, resulting in confidence and balance. These postures set us up for safe alignment and strong grounding and steadiness in the rest of our practice.

We flow further onto forward bending which take us into our past, teaching us how to resolve old issues by letting go of negative emotions that become trapped in the hamstrings, the hips and the back.

We will start to look at how to harness the breath and break down Surya Namaska (sun salutations) and experience the fundamental forward bends and hip openers we need to progress and build flexibility in our practice.

Workshop 2: Back bending asanas, inversions, meditation and “putting it all together”

Sunday 29th April, 2.00 - 4.30pm

Backward bending helps us move into our future with grace and freedom not only by relieving tightness in the thighs, abdomen, chest, throat and face, but also by relieving related fears and other negative emotions that can be held in those areas. In this workshop we will specifically look at and break down the Jivamukti Surya Namaska (sun salutation) which focuses on back bending.

We will be looking at ways to safely work into some deep back bends with different techniques and props while looking after the spine.

We will be breaking down Ashtanga A Surya Namaska (sun salutation). We will be going over and breaking down different inversions like headstand, handstand and shoulder stand. These are the most powerful of the asanas, affecting you physically, reversing the aging process, mentally stimulating intuition and clarity and spirituality. Learn how to invert safely with proper alignment and intention.

In our time together you will be helped to progress into asanas with the use of different techniques and props that can be applied in open classes to ensure correct alignment. These basics provide the underlying structure to help a student progress your practice and enter into vinyasa class intelligently and safely.

£25 for 1 workshop day or £45 for both days

If you wish to book for a friend, please contact us.   It is only possible to reserve one space under your own name - everybody needs an account and to sign our online waiver.

Mythical Flow Workshop and Dinner with Tanja Mickwitz

Love a good story? Love a good vinyasa? Then this is for you! Mythical Flow is Tanja Mickwitz's unique and much-loved signature class incorporating storytelling into asana practice.

Come along and immerse yourself in the magical world of Indian myths, Gods, Goddesses and (of course) demons whilst enjoying moving your body with creative vinyasa flow. These classes form a full journey through mythology, yoga, mantra and mudra which will take you into a deeper understanding of yoga as well as yourself. The stories act as a mirror reflecting back at us how we choose to act within the stories of our own lives. The symbolism of the myths is really about what happens within ourselves and connecting to different deity energies allows us to reflect over how these different aspects of ourselves shape our behaviour and who we are in the world.

Through the tools of practice we can invoke exactly what we need to act more skillfully and live more fully. And in a addition to being a great tool for reflection these stories provide great fun as a backdrop to practice!

After the workshop, you will be served a freshly prepared organic seasonal supper in the LEVELSIX cafe.  Dinner will include a cleansing rehydrating juice, delicious main course of fava bean puree with artichoke, broad bean, pea fricassee, caramelised onions, followed by rhubarb compote for dessert.

6.30am - 8.00pm - Workshop
8.00am - 9.00pm - Dinner

£35 for workshop and dinner

Inversion Immersion Workshop Weekend with Jean Hall

Turning upside down is an invitation to playfully find courage, strength and a new perspective. In yoga philosophy it is symbolic of uprooting old habits of being whilst grounding the mind. By learning how to safely invert (putting our heart above our head) we discover a wonderful way to awaken awareness, elevate mood, enhance spinal mobility and core stability and reduce the effects of gravity whilst building confidence and trust in ourselves.

Workshop day 1  (6.30 am - 9.00pm) - In this first session we will safely prepare the body to explore basic inversions such as head stand, hand stand and shoulder stand. Working from the ground up we will learn the fundamental alignment points for inversions through a thorough practice and study of foundational asanas like downward facing dog, plank, chaturanga and the dynamic interlinked movements of a yoga vinyasa flow.

Workshop day 2 (10.30am - 1.00pm) - In this workshop we’ll further develop and utilize the key alignment principles and core awareness in the body gained from the previous day to learn forearm balances and free standing handstands to enjoy the art and power of being upside down. Partner work will be included… Come prepared to be challenged!

£55 for both workshop days (Friday and Saturday)
£30 for 1 day (Friday or Saturday - you decide!)
